About the Gathering

Southern Rodmakers is an annual gathering of bamboo fly rod makers. Over 300 craftsmen from 39 states have gathered on the White river near Cotter Arkansas since 1998. If you're interested in making bamboo fly rods, join us at the gathering in October, or follow the links below to join the on-line gathering of bamboo rod makers. "The List" is a great place to start. The list is an old school e-mail server with hundreds of members around the world.

SRG 2014 Wrap-up

Great gathering again this year.  Weather was spectacular!  There were 99 attendees from 26 states.

If you haven't heard, Tony Spezio took a hard fall just before the gathering.  But in true Spezio form, he toughed it out and completed his presentation Friday morning.  Bob Nunley joined us at the gathering after a long recovery from a wreck several months ago.  Bruce Morton was looking and sounding strong as he continues to battle cancer.  Barry Bauer wasn't able to make it as he continues to struggle with cancer.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to Bruce and Barry.

Louis and Wanda Barbaro were awarded rodmakers of the year.  The Barbaro's are an inspiring husband and wife rodmaking and fishing team.  And our very own Harry Boyd was presented with the 2014 AP Bellinger award by Chet Croco.

Several SRG 2014 handouts have been added to the downloads list including the Taper Quest 2014 book and the bamboo ferrule presentation.  The attendee list has been updated to include 2014 attendees.  Contact me if you need contact info for an attendee.  We're not going to post contact info on the blog.

The registration fee will go up to $65 next year.  We're going to upgrade to a bigger tent in case we have a bad weather year.  We don't have enough capacity in the two small tents with 100 attendees in the rain.

I'll add a few pictures to the photos list in a few days.  If you would like to share your pictures, upload them to a web album and send me a link to the album.  I'll post the link in the list of pictures.

Contact me if you have something you want to share on this blog.

Counting down to next year,

David
